About the Women's Leadership Conference

The University of Idaho's Women's Leadership Conference invites all women in higher education – students, staff and faculty - to convene to celebrate our differences and create an empowered campus community more inclusive of women as a group, irrespective of gender identification, sexual orientation, religion, race, ethnicity, ability, or socioeconomic background. Since 2007, the Women’s Leadership Conference has provided an opportunity for women in the region to engage in dialogue and professional development around issues impacting their work, personal goals, skills, and journeys.

The Women’s Center and Athena (the University of Idaho Women’s Professional Organization) partner to create the Women’s Leadership Conference. Committee members from across campus, and from neighboring institutions, work for nearly a year to create a conference experience that responds to current needs of women. Past conferences have sessions focused on women in leadership, transition between professional and personal roles, development of skills and competencies in communication, and exploration of current research on women and gender.

Conference Planning Committee Volunteers Needed!

Athena and the UI Women’s Center are seeking individuals interested in serving on the planning committee for the 2012 Women’s Leadership Conference (WLC). Organizing and planning for such a significant event requires the work of many, and we seek your help in this collaborative process. We warmly welcome anyone and everyone whose experience, perspective, and energy will ensure a successful and inclusive WLC! We know there are folks with valuable skills who are dedicated to women’s professional development and leadership, and could contribute to this planning process.

Planning meetings are held monthly throughout the spring semester. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please email wlc@uidaho.edu.

Information about Past Conferences
The Women's Leadership Conference has been co-hosted by the University of Idaho Women's Center and Athena Professional Women's Organization in 2007, 2008, and 2010.

2010 Conference
The theme of the 2010 conference, “Transitioning and Transforming Together: Women’s Journeys” addressed women’s changing needs throughout our lives, our desire to connect with and learn from each other as we experience transition, and the individual and collective journeys that each of us take as leaders.

Workshop sessions at the conference were linked to three sub-themes: Milestones, Change as a Constant, and Enjoying the Ride! and will focus on exploring issues related to rites of passage, transformative growth through change, and synergistic integration of life roles and priorities. Morning workshop sessions will be followed by a luncheon buffet and the conference keynote. Afternoon options include a film, "Who Does She Think She Is?" (learn more about the film by clicking here) and more workshop sessions. Theses workshop sessions will be followed by a reception with U of I President Duane Nellis, refreshments, and a raffle. A full conference schedule will be available shortly.
