About the Women's Leadership Conference
The University of Idaho's second Women's Leadership Conference invites all women in higher education – students, staff and faculty - to convene to celebrate our differences and create an empowered campus community more inclusive of women as a group, irrespective of gender identification, sexual orientation, religion, race, ethnicity, ability, or socioeconomic background. The theme of this year’s conference, “Empowering Women, Inclusive Communities” reflects our desire to host a conference that encourages open generation of ideas to improve campus climate and create an inclusive work and learning environment.
Keynote Speaker - Nancy Hunter Denney
The kick-off event and highlight of this year’s conference is a keynote speech by nationally recognized speaker, author, and educator Nancy Hunter Denney entitled “Zing! Your Life and Leadership” on Thursday, October 16 at 5:00 pm in the SUB Ballroom. Prior to starting her own speaking business in 1993, Nancy Hunter Denney worked in higher education student affairs for twelve years, most recently as the Assistant Dean of Students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Since then, she has earned a national reputation for captivating audiences with her high energy, insightful strategies, and sense of humor. In a highly humorous and engaging presentation style, Nancy Hunter Denney presents her original Zing! Impact Equation, demonstrating that it’s never just one thing, but rather a combination of the person, environment, skill level, and minimization of distractions that determine the level of one’s potential influence or charisma. Following the keynote, there will be a reception and book signing.
Workshop sessions on Friday will be grouped into three sub-themes, Consciousness, Communication, and Common Purpose and will focus on exploring issues of awareness, inclusivity, privilege, leadership, and sustainability. Nancy Hunter Denney will present two workshops “Staying Motivated to Work in Higher Education” and “What Did You Say? Gender Issues in Communication.” Morning workshop sessions will be followed by a luncheon buffet focused on networking. Afternoon workshop sessions will be followed by a reception featuring refreshments and a raffle. Please click on the Schedule to see a tentative schedule for the conference. More details including workshop topics and presenters will be added as they become available.
